Joanna Alexiou

Joanna completed her Law degree with Hispanic Studies at UCL in 2008 and as part of her degree she studied Spanish Law in Madrid for one year.  She completed the LPC at the College of Law, Bloomsbury, in London in 2009.

She qualified as a Solicitor with Johns & Saggar LLP in July 2012 and is now working as a Senior Associate Solicitor in Employment, Charity and Trademark law.

Joanna has developed expertise and advises both employees and employers on an array of employment related issues involving unfair, constructive and summary dismissals, breach of contract, redundancy, disciplinary and grievance procedures, TUPE and discrimination among others. She has acted for a variety of individuals and companies in relation to issuing and defending employment tribunal claims. She audits and drafts employment law contracts and handbooks for her charity clients and other businesses and offers HR support. Joanna has extensive experience advising individuals and companies on the terms and effect of Settlement Agreements and negotiating with other solicitors for more beneficial settlement terms.

Joanna worked as a volunteer with BPP Pro Bono Employment Law Telephone Advice Line in 2015 where she would assist and advise members of the public with their employment law queries. She is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

Joanna has developed invaluable insight into charities and has assisted them with Charity Commission enquiries, HR support and litigation. She prepares and submits charity registration applications with the Charity Commission and works closely with the Commission caseworkers and charities to successfully resolve registration queries. She is also a member of the Charity Law Association.

Joanna undertakes work on UK, EU and global trademark registrations under the Madrid Protocol. She has worked with several local and international trademark lawyers, trademark officers and Counsel to overcome registration oppositions and draft opposition grounds.

Joanna grew up in Madrid, is fluent in Spanish, conversational in French and has an understanding of Greek. She is a keen music fan, enjoys travelling and going to live soft –rock and pop concerts.
